Wasn't sure what I'd find when I purchased
this. |
Update this game is finally here.
Justin Jernigan of totallyamused.com did a great
job (as always) of getting it here (NY) from Texas.
Justin had emailed me pictures of the game when he
picked it up and described it. I thought he was being a little too critical,
he was not.
Preliminary inspection of the game has proven once
again it's very difficult to buy games at a distance. Sellers are often very
misleading when describing the actual condition of a game, do to inexperience,
lack of knowledge or other. Though they often offer pictures of the game to
satisfy any concerns you may have, they too can be very misleading..
I have to point out that this seller, though there wasn't much money involved, offered and did transport the game at no charge an hour away so I could arrange shipping from that location.
This game was described to me as fully functional,
with one issue, see picture above. The only issue reported to me other than
the obvious need for some cosmetic stuff was that the game though it played
fine could not be seen through the scope.
This turned out to be NOT true. This feature works
fine.
Now for the condition
There is a piece of plywood on the bottom hiding the
fact that the bottom had gotten wet and the particle board swelled and is
falling apart. (not mentioned, though I specifically asked about the missing
base on the game)
The back door, which in this case holds almost all
of the games components, including power transformer, sound boards, relays,
etc is badly swollen and flaking apart and will have to be replaced as well.
This will require removing all of the above mentioned parts.
The game itself does NOT work correctly. The chain
driven torpedo bar does not move when the scope is moved.
A number of the relays are in poor shape, and arcing
badly. The ship assy's are in very poor condition. A number of the ship pictures
are damaged , and most of the lighting doesn't work for them.
The really funny thing was the ONE thing the seller
reported to me to be faulty was that the scope didn't work, and it does work..
BTW there was NO cord attached to the game (cut off
-bare wire ends on game), wondered how he tried it, then found the remains
of a lamp cord in the coin door area.
Note: The point of describing this here is to help
others be prepared when buying games online, for what they may find.
Pictures will follow when time and space permits.
As you can see from the above, I have my work cut
out for me on this one.
This project has been pushed off until
the future, when time permits. For now it's in storage.
I have a bunch of other projects pending. Including a new one as I
write this. I just purchased at auction (now in florida) a galaga cabaret.
Look for pictures .
FUTURE PROJECT
Sub model
| This is a Revell model of the WWII "Balao"
class submarine "LionFish SS-298", which is a sister ship (boat) to the "Sea Devil SS-400". I believe this to be the correct class of sub depicted by this game. It's a 21 inch long plastic model and will fit nicely on top of the game. |

This is a photograph of the actual WWII SS400
SEA DEVIL .
Launched February 28, 1944
This is the game flyer, it shows different cabinet
art.
